Forest Hill is the posh neighbourhood along Eglinton Avenue West, stretching between Allen Road and Avenue, where the houses are gorgeous and the shops are plentiful. The nearby Forest Hill Village along Spadina Road is a hidden gem in the area, feeling more like a small town with its row of boutique shops, art galleries and restaurants. On any given day, the Village is packed with locals, grabbing a kebab at Mashu Mashu or a workout at Track Fitness. A new LRT is on its way and the Yonge and Eglinton hub is around the corner.
Here are three things you might not know about the lively Forest Hill neighbourhood.
1. House of Chan is becoming an LRT stop.
The longtime Chinese food restaurant on Eglinton West will soon replace its dumpling diggs for a transit stop. House of Chan has been an iconic restaurant for the last 50 years, and was (or will be) demolished to make way for an LRT stop.
2.Drake grew up in Forest Hill.
Rapper Drake (aka “Aubrey Drake Graham”) once called Forest Hill home. The former Degrassi star lived with his mother in a small rented house in the area and attended school at Forest Hill Collegiate. While we love Forest Hill and all its charm, you gotta swoon over Drake’s enormous L.A. mansion. Another FH alumni? 90210’s Shenae Grimes also grew up in the area.
3. The Beltline Trail extends to Forest Hill.
Toronto’s ultimate trail for cyclists, walkers and runners extends through Forest Hill to just north of Eglinton. The route is a scenic tour of Toronto, from Mount Pleasant Avenue and continuing through the Moore Park Ravine down to the Brick Works. It’s an urban oasis in the city, much like these community parks.
