Dundas Street provides for all shopping needs, such as clothing, household items, and food. It also has a number of service stores, like travel agents, banks, dentists, etc. The area is also well known for its shops in home decor. People also come to the area for the trendy restaurants and cafes. Little Malta is also in this area, at Dundas and St John, where one can find several Maltese shops and businesses.

High Park is very close to this neighbourhood, so residents have plenty of recreational opportunities. High Park has many sports facilities, trails and large green areas. Aside from High Park, The Junction is home to four local parks, which also have public facilities such as wading pools, skating rinks, and playgrounds. In addition, there is the local YMCA, which hosts many programs for all ages. Similarly, there is the Perth Dupont Public Library, which also has many programs for children.

This neighbourhood began as a railway town in the 1870’s. When the railway lines opened rail yards and stations in the Junction area, there became numerous employment opportunities, which in turn drew the labourers and their families to settle there. A lawyer in 1882 purchased the Carlton Race Course property, and then registered it as the West Toronto Junction plan of subdivision. Two years later, there were ads in newspapers about the stunning views of Lake Ontario and High Park that residents would enjoy from this neighbourhood. Lots were being sold left, right and centre, and the neighbourhood began to expand, with houses being built and trees planted. This is how the neighbourhood as we know it now came to be.
