There is plenty to do in The Beach. Queen Street is the central street in the area, with many clothing shops, boutiques, restaurants, cafes and art galleries. Many of locals go to Kingston Road for their shopping, as it is less touristy.

Most people from outside the neighbourhood come to the area for The Boardwalk, located right on the beach. It is perfect for biking, going for a stroll, or rollerblading. On the beach there are many activities happening, beach volleyball being the biggest one. However, if you like a quieter beach scene, just keep walking along The Boardwalk until you find a spot- there are many areas!

Other areas that are popular in the neighbourhood are Ashbridges Bay Park, Glen Stewart Park and Donald Summerville Pool. These offer spaces for picnics, a ravine and an Olympic sized pool. Kew Gardens also has lawn bowling and tennis programs, as well as a playground, an ice rink, a wading pool and a baseball diamond. There is also The Beach Toronto Public Library nearby, which offers programs for all ages.

This area’s first settlers were the Ashbridge family, who came to Canada in 1793 from Philadelphia. This is where Ashbridge’s Bay Park got its name. They, along with other families, farmed the area until the 1800’s when many properties were subdivided. Many pieces of land in the area were set by the city to be made into parks. These were areas such as Woodbine, Kew Gardens, Victoria Park and Balmy Beach. This attracted many people to the area, as it was seen as a type of get-away or cottage area. Eventually, the area expanded both geographically and in population, and is now one of Toronto’s most popular neighbourhoods.
