Neighbourhood Vibe.

Etobicoke is generally divided into three smaller areas- The Lakeshore (South), Central, and Rexdale (North). Etobicoke has a lot of industrial land and expressways. There are many residential areas as well, but they consist mainly of single-family dwellings, and only few high-rise buildings. There are many parks in Etobicoke, especially along the banks of Humber River. Etobicoke is also home to the third best golf course in Canada- St George’s Golf and Country Club.

History.

European immigrants first settled this area in the 1790’s. There were several villages and towns within the area, which all became known as Etobicoke. In 1998, it was amalgamated into the City of Toronto. The name Etobicoke comes from the First Nations people who were living in neighbouring Mississauga. It means “place where the alders grow”- alders meaning the plant.
