Neighbourhood Vibe.

This neighbourhood is known to be very exclusive and expensive. Many prominent Torontonians have lived here, including Margaret Atwood. Her novel “Cat’s Eye” is somewhat based on her childhood growing up in Bennington Heights.

All household shopping can be done at the mall which is located on the south-east corner of Bayview and Moore Avenues. It is constituted of a grocery store, a pharmacy and a bank. For other shopping, Leaside shopping district is just north on Bayview. This area is also home to the popular Evergreen Brick Works, located in the Don Valley ravine off the Bayview extension. Evergreen Brick Works is a multi-purpose community space, hosting events such as the weekly Saturday farmers market.

Lifestyle.

Bennington Heights is perfect for nature lovers. The Don River Valley and the Moore Park trail are both just a few steps away. There is also Bennington Park and Evergreen Gardens Park. The area is very green and hard to believe you are in the middle of the city.

History.

The first resident of the present day neighbourhood was Thomas Weatherhead, a solicitor for the East York School Board. He purchased 30 Rosemount Avenue in 1925, and later had the street name changed to Bennington; his wife’s maiden name. This name then got adopted by the neighbourhood school; Bennington Heights Elementary School.
