History.

South Hill is defined by the Avenue Road hill. This historic land formation used to be the shoreline of the Lake Iroquois, whose waters ran into what we know as Lake Ontario, during the ice age 12,000 years ago. Lake Iroquois left behind an escarpment that was covered by a forest with creeks, ponds and waterfalls until the 1900’s. When people began to settle in the area, South Hill became a popular neighbourhood for the wealthy, as they built large estates with the beautiful nature around them. Examples of these properties are Casa Loma, Spadina House and the Oaklands mansion.
