There are a number of bus routes in this area, which connect to the subway lines. The main bus route is along Eglinton Avenue, which connects to both Eglinton West and Eglinton subway stations. There are also busses that run along Dufferin, Caledonia and Oakwood. If going south, Dufferin reaches all the way down to the waterfront. If going north, Allen Road is a quick way to get out of the city, and is just 5 minutes from Fairbank.

Eglinton Avenue West has shops that cater to everyone’s needs; pharmaceuticals, variety and corner stores, grocery stores, clothing stores, even boutiques and on the contrary, bargain shops. Not to mention restaurants of all kinds. Dufferin Street also has a wide array of stores for the local shopper.

There is the Fairbank Memorial Community Centre which has plenty of sports facilities, including a basketball court, a swimming pool, baseball diamonds, a playground and lots of green space perfect for picnics, leisurely park strolls or a game of soccer. The community centre also hosts a number of programs not only for children but for the elderly as well.

This area got its name from the farm that sat north of Eglinton, between Dufferin and Keele, which was named ‘Fairbank.’ The area started to grow around Eglinton and Dufferin with the building of a school, a post office, a church, and a number of stores carrying every-day items. The Fairbank United Church still stands today. Thea area became more and more popular with the Belt Line Railway stop that popped up in the area in 1892, and when the Toronto streetcars began to drive through the area.
