Neighbourhood Vibe.

Bedford Park homes for sale are incredibly popular with families. Most of the original housing stock was constructed between 1890 and 1940. Many of the detached, semi-detached Bedford Park houses for sale have undergone renovations. There are fewer and fewer 2 bedroom bungalows left as they quickly get snapped up by builders, knocked down and replaced with brand new custom Bedford park houses for sale.

Lifestyle.

There are excellent private and public schools in the area. The streets are quiet, often as you drive along you’ll interrupt a ball hockey game. Residents in this tight neighbourhood have a strong sense of belonging. They will band together for combined springtime garage sales, Victoria Day firework celebrations, that type of thing. Children everywhere. Parks. Yonge subway. Corallo Barber shop has been a fixture there for 50 years. You stroll along Yonge Street, stop, chat, coffee, flowers from the green grocer, Christmas Tree from Bill’s. Secord animal hospital for Spot. Don Cherry’s flashy suits from The Coop haberdashery. Playgrounds. Parkettes. All this in Bedford Park. Local business association is now calling it Upper Yonge Village.

History.

Way back in 1890 three separate villages were amalgamated into the Town of North Toronto. These villages were Bedford Park, Davisville and Eglinton. In 1912 North Toronto was then annexed by the city of Toronto.
Bedford Park was situated within the most northerly part of the formal boundaries of Toronto city, ‘proper’. Even today many long time Bedford Park residents will still identify themselves as living in North Toronto. Heaven forbid if someone should misinterpret their ‘North Toronto’ location as being Aurora or Newmarket!

It is believed that Bedford Park is named after the Bedford Park Hotel which was located on the south-west corner of Yonge and Fairlawn.
