Pigeon Lake
A part of the Trent Severn Waterway, Pigeon Lake is 27 km long, up to 3 km wide and up to 56 ft deep. Communities along and near the lakeshore include Bobcaygeon on the North West, and Omemee on the South. The lake primarily overflows into Buckhorn Lake through Gannon Narrows. This lake is part of a tri-lake water system consisting of Pigeon Lake, Buckhorn Lake & Chemong Lake. The most common game fish in the lake are smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye, yellow perch, Muskellunge, carp, as well as, a number of Panfish. Big (Boyd/Chiminis) Island is 1085 acres in size and is the largest undeveloped island in the Kawarthas and is located in the northern part of Pigeon Lake. This property is an area of natural & scientific interest and home to wetlands, diverse forests, & a wide variety of plant & wildlife species. The property was donated to the Kawartha Land Trust in 2015 and the public is permitted to use the island for fishing, swimming, picnics, hiking, walking, cross-country skiing & other related recreation.
