Oakwood/Vaughan

History:

Oakwood-Vaughan was a part of the City of York until the amalgamation of the City of Toronto. The areas political boundaries have changed numerous times over the years, especially when it became a part of Toronto.

Description:

Eglinton Avenue West has shops that cater to everyone’s needs; pharmaceuticals, variety and corner stores, grocery stores, clothing stores, even boutiques and on the contrary, bargain shops. Not to mention restaurants of all kinds. Dufferin Street also has a wide array of stores for the local shopper.

There is the Oakwood Village Public Library and the Maria A. Shchuka Public Library, which both host programs for children and adults. There is the Fairbank Memorial Community Centre nearby which has plenty of sports facilities, including a basketball court, a swimming pool, baseball diamonds, a playground and lots of green space perfect for picnics, leisurely park strolls or a game of soccer. There is also the Cedarvale Park and Ravine nearby, which offers a scenic trail for cyclists, joggers and walkers alike. Similarly, there is the Humewood Community School and Park, which hosts programs for children, adults and senior citizens.
